Are educational trips for rich only?
Mrs. Gilat Simon
Principal of Kugel's High School
1 Mota Gur street
Holon
Dear Madam,
Every year our school sends students to Poland to visit the death camps . These trips have a very important educational value .This year, our school is sending pupils to Poland ,however, the price is too high and, as a result, very few pupils can afford it. Therefore, I am writing this letter to complain about the high price of the journey .
First of all, like I said before, the journey to Poland is very significant for each student in our country. In that journey the students learn about the Halocaust that occured 70 years ago. In that Haloucast, the Natzi army systematically mudered 6 millions of Jews : men, women, children and babies . For that purpose, it is our responsibility to learn about what has happened in order to prevent such a future massacare. There is no doubt that this trip has significant meaning and each student should go on that trip. Therefore, because of its educational importance, such a trip should be affordable to most students .However, contary to this basic assumption , our school charges 9000 Shekels . This price is the most expensive price that a school has ever charged. I have asked other schools in the area and the prices range from 6ooo Shekels to 7ooo Shekels.
In addition, I know that our school has been working with a very expensive tourist agency for several years. Had the school asked other agencies to organize such a trip , it would have found much cheaper propositions . Therefore, I strongly ask you to check this tourist agency and compare its price with the prices other agencies offer.I am sure that if you find a cheaper price more students will be able to afford it.There is no reason why our school work with one tourist agency while others are better .
I would appreciate if you look into this matter and reply as soon as possible.
Looking forward to your response.
Sincerely Yours,
Noa Davari.
Very Good work!

George's Summer's Reading
George's Summer's Reading
George Stoyonovich is the main character of the short story "A Summer's Reading" that was written by Bernard Malamud. He dropped out of school when he was sixteen .He neither works nor studies. George undergoes a significant change throughout the story. He improves his life and becomes mature. George is a very interesting character. Therefore, in my essay, I would like to describe him.
To begin with, George is about 20 years old. He is a tall bony young man who lives in a poor immigrant neighborhood. George's mother died when he was young, so he lives with his big sister ,Sophie and his father. He neither works nor studies, he only gets a weekly allowance from his sister, Sophie. George seems a lazy young man, however, the reason he doesn't work is because he doesn't want to compromise and have a simple job. Gerorge wants to be respectable and succeed in his life. Nevertheless, he lacks maturity and responsibility in order to fulfill his ambition. George has always heard people in the neighborhood talking about succeeding in America (fulfilling the American Dream). That is why George wants to study. He understands that the only way to make his dream come true is by studying hard.
Throughout the story, George has a conflict. The conflict begins when George lies to Mr.Cat that he is reading 100 worthwhile books. Afterwards, Mr.Catt spreads a rumor in the neighborhood that George is reading 100 books. As a result, people start respecting George and he feels good about it. On the one hand,George knows he has to read ,but on the other hand, he doesn't feel like doing it .He avoids meeting Mr.Catt because he is afraid that Mr.Catt will ask him questions about the books. One night, George meets Mr. Catta coming home drunk and he tells him not to make the same mistake he made when he was young . George realizes Mr. Catta knows he hasn't read the books and feels bad about it. Afterwards George has a crisis. He doesn't leave his room and Sophie and his father understand something is wrong with him .One hot night George leaves his home and goes for a walk and he sees people still respect him and one of them says it's a wonderful thing a boy his age finished reading so many books and George realizes Mr. Catta has spread another rumour that he has finished reading all the books. After some time, in the fall, George goes to the library and starts reading.
To conclude, in light of the above, I strongly believe that George's character is unusal. George needs Mr. Catta as his guide . George lacks responsibility and he can't make this change without him. A Summer's Reading is a story about George's maturity.

The Disaster Between Our Ears
A research that has done(ww. and gr.) discovered that there is a connection between food and behavior. The question that is asked is whether food manufacturers should be held responsible for producing healthier food or the people are(wo) responsible to check what they eat. In my opinion, the responsibility is mainly on the food manufacturers.
First, food manufacturers sometimes mislead people with wrong information in order to sell their products. For example, they call many of their products "Diet" and claim that those products are healthier than others. However, they aren't. In that way, people can mistakenly buy unhealthy food and consume it. In addition to it, some food manufacturers add harmful ingredients to their products because they want people to consume it more. Unfortunately, after lab checks all those findings are revealed and the damage has already been done. Therefore, food manufacturers should be forbidden to use those ingredients. They should use only healthy ones.
Second, food manufacturers have to warn us if their products contain harmful ingredients as tobacco companies do. As I see it, there should be a law that obliges manufacturers to write clearly all the ingredients they use so that we will know what we eat. As it is today, many companies use all kinds of codes to hide their ingredients(phr.). As a result, a simple person can not understand what he eats.
In the light of the above, I strongly believe, that food manufacturers are responsible to advertise clearly the ingredients they use. If people know what they consume, they are more likely to consume it wisely.
Very well written, Noa.

Dear Editor,
I have read your letter concerning Dudu Topaz's suicide and I would like to express my opinion about it. In your article, you related to the issue that shocked all of us - Dudu's suicide and how the media created(ww.) it. I think you are right, Dudu Topaz was a victim of the media's rudeness , as you wrote: "The same things that brought his success brought his downfall. It's exactly the same formula."
To begin with, there is no doubt that Dudu Topaz has committed a terrible crime and everybody should condemn such a crime. However, the means of communication covered his story on a daily basis in order to attract public interest. Journalists picked every way to intrude his life, sometimes they published incorrect details about this case. Consequently, Dudu Topaz and his children faced daily embarrassment and suffering.
Secondly, I agree with what Rahav said, that something had happened to Topaz ,who felt upset. Probably, Topaz felt disappointment and frustation when he was refused to make his new show on TV. As a result, he decided to attack different people who were in charge of channel 2. However, I strongly believe that had Topaz been an ordinary person, his crime would not have been published in the front page for so many days. It seems that the media took advantage of the situation and "enjoyed" taking pictures and showing Topaz in his bad moments. Many people feel he shouldn't have been humiliated so many times.
To conclude, in the light of the above, I strongly believe that the media has exaggerated in its covering of Topaz's crime as it does when it deals with celebrities.- Your conclusion is too short and superficial.
I look forward to your publishing my letter as soon as possible.
Sincerely yours,
Noa Davari.

Death Penalty to Murderers
Recently a lot of violent crimes have been committed. For example, the lynch on the Tel-Aviv promenade and the brutal attack on the homo-lesbian community in Tel Aviv. Therefore,One of questions that has been asked is: whether murderers of such searious crimes deserve the death penalty. I strongly believe the death penalty shouldn't be used in our country.
We shouldn't give the death Penalty for the following reasons:first, the police sometimes mistakenly catch the wrong person . Therefore, if the death penalty is implemented in our country, innocent people may die. For example, we have heard that lot of innocent people were executed in the U.S.A , a country that has had death penalty. It's impossible to correct such mistakes. However, the authorities can free innocent people from jail if the death penalty isn't implemented.
Secondly, the death penalty is an ethical issue. People can't decide who has to die and who does not, only God can do it. If we execute criminals , we will "commit" the same crime as well - killing God's creation. Only God has to deal with life and death, humans have no moral right to do such a thing. In addition, criminals can be rehabilitated after they serve their term. Thus, everyone has the right to correct his deeds.
To sum up, in the light of the above, I think, Israel has to put criminals in jail. It's an ethical problem to kill criminals and it can cost the death of innocent people, so we shouldn't use the death penalty .

The media or Dudu - who is to blame for Topaz tragedy?
The Israeli public was shocked by Dudu Topaz's tragic suicide two weeks ago. One of the questions that were asked was "who is to blame for his suicide?" I strongly believe that the media is not responsible for his suicide , however, they have triggered it to some extent.
There is no doubt that Dudu Topaz did a horribe thing and was guilty. However, the media has gone too far when it focused on him. The media reported every little detail about him, whether important or trivial, every day. In addition, photographers took his pictures when he looked untidy and humiliated. They did it in order to attract more readers and viewers. I don't doubt the fact that the media has the right to report about such crimes, nevertheless, in this case it exaggerated. For example, Dudu's son heard about his father's suicide from a journalist. If Dudu Topaz had been a simple man, he would not have had such exposure.
As I said above, I strongly condemn Dudu Topaz's decision to attack Shira Margalit, Avi Nir, both high-ranking executives at Channel 2, and his plan to hurt Erez Tal, Zvika Hadar and Avri Gilad. However, reporters started to publish all kinds of rumors about him, such as being suspected of ordering his ex-wife's murder , a thing which was proven incorrect and hurt Dudu Topaz very much.
To conclude, in the light of the above, I feel that the media has done much injustice with Dudu Topaz. I won't say that it's responsible for his suicide, however, reporters should learn a lesson and try to be more considerate even with criminals , after all they are human beings too . As the proverb says: "words are mighter(sp.) than a sword".

Writing Assigment 13 - Hate on the net.
In our 21th century, the Facebook site has become increasingly popular. A lot of people all over the world are connected to this site in order to communicate with other people and their friends. However, some people have abused that site by creating hate groups. As far as I see, this negative use of that site is totally wrong and therefore should be forbidden.
To begin with, it's not surprising to hear that the parents didn't know what their children had done because some parents don't know how to use new technolgies .Others are very busy and don't find time to check what their children do on the net. We can't ignore the fact that parents have responsiblility for their children and I think that the problem starts here. Parents should be involved in whatever their children do and that includes the Internet.
Second, I was shocked by one of the parent's reaction(where? you have to state that you have read his reaction in such and such article). This parent claimed that he didn't see anything wrong with the hate group his child belonged to. If parents didn't see anything wrong with that, we have a real problem because this parent misses his role as an "educator", who teaches his child the right values. Parents have always been their children's moral guide and set an example. Therefore, in my opinion, this parent doesn't fulfill the traditional role parents have.
To conclude, in the(מיותר) light of the above, I believe such hate groups shouldn't exist. I suggest that the creators of Facebook and other sites monitor the content of their site(s) and won't(gr.) allow it.
Excellent work. (95)

Advantages and Disadvantages of School Uniform
Pupils all around the world have worn school uniform for many years. Many schools in Japan, France, USA and Israel, oblige pupils to come to school with a uniform. Wearing school uniform has advantages and disadvantages which I will present in my composition.
On the one hand, the school uniform is very important. It is imporatant because it shows that a student belongs to a certain school. When a student wears a shirt with the school's symbol, everyone knows where the student studies, a thing which may help to create a feeling of belonging and school pride. Moreover, the school uniform saves money. Students sometimes judge other students by their outward look. Therefore, many students spend much money on clothes in order to be more popular. When everyone wears the same uniform, the students don't need to spend much money to buy expensive brand names. In addition, school uniform saves time in the mornings because you don't have to think much about what to wear. In addition, schools claim that school uniform is important for good education because pupils need to obey a certain dress code, a thing that helps the students be prepared for the army and any other framework.
On the other hand, some pupils claim that wearing a school uniform hurts their individuality and self-expression. They claim it deprives them of the right to wear whatever they want. After all, they are still children and at this age there should be more room for self expression. As far as saving money, some pupils claim that the school uniform doesn't save money because they need to buy additional clothes to what they already have. Therefore, they think it is not necessary and should be cancelled.
To conclude, in the light of the above, school uniform has advantages and disadvantages. I strongly believe that the school uniform is necessary and has benefits. However, I think that each school should design its school uniform from time to time and let pupils and teachers decide on it.

Burge McCall - correction
The relationship between Burge and his wife, Venita has changed a lot throughout the story. At the beginning of the story they hated each other, however, at the end of the story they loved each other. What has caused this change? In my composition, I am going to describe their relationship and what has brought this change.
Venita McCall was a tall, thin woman with black hair and big black eyes. She always wore her hair parted in the middle and smoothed down on each side. She was a quiet woman who didn't have many friends. In addition, she was an introvert person who didn't talk much. On the other hand, Burge McCall was a short heavy man with a loud voice. He thought he was a lady killer and was married twice. Burge and Venita hated each other in the beginning and people said Venita married him to run away from the noise of the Santa Fe railroad engines. Burge McCall was a chief clerk and earned a good salary, but he was very stingy with his wife because he liked to spend it on himself and other women. In addition, he called his wife bad names, but she didn't answer. She only looked at him in a way that made him even angrier. One day he even slapped her on her face and she called him "a dirty rat".
Venita asked the chemist to tell her husband she bought a pound of rat poison and Burge McCall started to treat her nicely because he was scared she would poison him.For example, he didn't get drunk because he was scared he would be poisoned by her while he was drunk. Moreover, he started to take her out to restaurants, to movies, to picnics and he spoke nicely to her because he didn't want to upset her. As a result, Venita started to like him and was gentle and warm to him, a thing that has improved their relationship and soon they were in love with each other. One day, Burge looked at his wife and he saw that she was smiling at him and called her "honey", which shows they really loved each other. Unfortunately, Burge died and Venita shed tears in his funeral.
To conclude, as far as I see, Venita and Burge McCall's realtionship has changed dramatically during their marriage because of Venita's smart decision to make her husband know she had bought rat poison. Venita deliberately told the chemist to tell her husband she had bought rat poison, a thing that scared Burge. As a result, he started to treat her nicely and it eventually improved their relationship.

Expressing Opinion About Homework - Correction 30.4.09
.
Schools have been giving homework for centuries. However, many students think that giving homework is unfair. They claim that in many cases it is not necessary. I strongly believe that homework is necessary , nevertheless, it should be given with much consideration.
On the one hand, teachers sometimes give too much homework without any consideration. Sometimes we have to do a lot of homework and study for tests, a thing which is very hard. Let's not forget we have a "life" after school and we need to do other things besides studying. For example, some students go to a Youth movement or have hobbies.
On the other hand, there is no doubt that doing homework improves a student's grades. For example, Math and English are subjects that demand practicing at home. A pupil can't do all the excerises in the lesson. However, there are some subjects that a student doesn't need to do a lot of homework. For instance, history is a subject the student has to do less homework. Unfortunately, every teacher thinks his subject is the most important and "bombards" us with a lot of homework, especially when we go on holidays, a thing which is unfair.
To conclude, I believe that the golden mean is the best. Teachers should give homework, but they should give it in the right proportion. If teachers always give a limited number of exercises every lesson, it will be more effective than giving a lot of homework every now and then. In addition, teachers should be considerate when we have tests.
Very good work. (97)

An Advice Letter
This is a very serious conflict, nevertheless, you should do whatever is good for you. In addition, you shouldn't do something that may hurt you. Therefore, I suggest you not to(מיותר) let them cheat from you(phr.). You might try to talk to them and explain to them your point of view. How about talking to the teacher and asking her to let you sit in the front seat by yourself during tests?
You should think about yourself first, however, you should do whatever I advise you in a very gentle way. If I were you, I would not be rude to them. That means, I would not copperate(sp.) with them, but I will still be respectful to them and avoid arguing with them. It will be silly of you to forget they are your friends.

My opinion about Oferet Yetzuka Operation
My opinion about Oferet Yetzuka Operation
Israel startet Oferet Yetzuka Operation 12 days ago and many Israeli families have been under tremendous pressure since then. Therefore, I would like to express my support in this operation.
Southern Israel has been in a state of war for 8 years. People in towns such as Sderot have been living under the threat of Kasam rockets and have not been able to live normally. Although Israel has had expressed its wish to live peacefully, the Hamas terror organization has launched rockets on innocent civilians causing physical and emotional suffering. As a result, the IDF started this defensive operation to remove this threat despite its high price on both sides. Sometimes a nation has to fight terror in order to secure its citizens.
To conclude, in the light of the above, I strongly believe our operation is morally just. My only hope is that all ours soldiers will return home safely and there wouldn't be many casualties among innocent civilians on both sides.
summary: I'm a 15 year old student that studies at Kugel Highschool. I think that this war is necessary and we must attack the Hamas because Southern Israel has been in a state of war for 8 years. People in towns such as Sderot have been living under the threat of Kasam rockets and have not been able to live normally. Therefore, we must protect those areas and attack the Hamas.
